The details did not fit: the repair of European cars for the year went up by 25-35%
The average cost of repairing European cars in Russia jumped by 25-35% over the year. In the All-Russian Union of Insurers, this is attributed to a noticeable increase in the cost of restoring foreign cars. The rising prices for spare parts are also affecting. For example, the cost of components for Renault increased by 33%, for Volkswagen — by 72%, and in the premium segments — for Audi and Porsche — almost doubled, market participants say. The reasons, according to them, lie in the continuing difficulties with the supply of spare parts and in inflation. Whether parts for foreign cars will continue to rise in price further is in the Izvestia article.
How much has the repair of European cars increased in a year?
The repair of European cars in Russia has significantly increased in price over the past year, market participants told Izvestia. The average cost for such cars increased by 26%, according to the All-Russian Union of Insurers. As a result, from August 2024 to August of this year, insurance payments reached 43.5 billion rubles.
The increase in the average CTP payment was confirmed to Izvestia by the press service of the Central Bank. They clarified that in the first half of 2025, compared with the six months of 2024, the figure increased by 17% and reached 108 thousand rubles. However, this did not affect the average price of the policy — it even decreased by 4%.
Meanwhile, market participants surveyed by Izvestia also see a more serious increase in costs for European manufacturers. The cost of restoring such CTP vehicles increased by 31.8% over the year, amounting to about 173.3 thousand rubles, said Evgeny Zhitnukhin, commercial director of the Fresh automotive marketplace.
In turn, independent expert Andrey Barkhota pointed out that the repair price for European car owners has increased by 25-65% over the past year. Moreover, the lower limit of this range corresponds to the use of non—original spare parts that are available in the workshop, and the upper limit corresponds to the price of work on the order and the supply of parts through parallel import, for example to Turkey or Kazakhstan.
One of the main reasons for this increase is the increase in costs for the repair work itself, the VSS explained. These include the labor costs of replacing parts and the cost of performing operations to dismantle damaged parts and install new ones, as well as the cost of repairing damaged components. This is due to the fact that with the withdrawal from the market of such cars, there are fewer specialists capable of performing the necessary work, and there is a shortage of personnel, Andrei Barkhota explained. The shortage of employees forces companies to raise their salaries. General inflation is also affecting.
Why spare parts for European cars are becoming more expensive
Another reason for the rise in the cost of repairing European cars is the rising price of spare parts for such cars. The cost of parts increased by about 20-30%, and in the premium segments of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche brands — even higher, sometimes even twice, the press service of Sovcombank Insurance reported. At the same time, the cost depends on the request. If a spare part needs to be received within two weeks, the price may be twice as high, they said.
A significant increase in the cost of components — up to 30% — due to a shortage of production is observed for cars older than eight years, said Mikhail Mosesov, Deputy director of the underwriting Department for motor insurance at Absolut Insurance. However, other categories of cars also experienced a surge in prices for parts: for Chinese, prices rose by 33%, for Korean — 22%, and for Russian — 19%, said Roman Timashov, director of after—sales services at Avtodom Altufevo.
According to Sogaz, spare parts, for example, for Renault increased in price by 33% last year, for Skoda — by 20%, and for Volkswagen — by more than 72%.
The following components were in the most demand: suspensions, brake system and body elements, Evgeny Zhitnukhin from Fresh emphasized. There are still not enough optics and electronic components, said Tatiana Ovchinnikova, director of the international franchise network of car service Fit Service.
The increase in prices for parts in this segment is primarily due to the complexity of supplies. Channels are narrowing under sanctions pressure, the delivery time for spare parts is growing, while demand remains. Therefore, suppliers are increasing the price range, explained Svyatoslav Shuvalov, Director of the Department of Loss Settlement at GSK Yugoria. The increase in the cost of spare parts has also left its mark: rising prices for metal, electronics, and energy resources, Sovcombank Insurance added.
Izvestia appealed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a question whether they see an increase in prices for European spare parts.
What will happen to the prices of spare parts by the end of the year
Today, the factors constraining price growth include the appearance of analogues of original spare parts and the intensification of work with used parts, the press service of Sovcombank Insurance noted.
Today, car repairs using used spare parts are used more and more often. However, it is allowed with certain restrictions, especially when it comes to restoring cars under CTP. The use of such parts is allowed if they meet the quality and safety requirements and if the use of used components is approved by the customer, the owner of the car. At the same time, market participants suggested that the authorities ease the requirements and allow the use of used parts (which do not affect traffic safety) during CTP repairs, even without additional approval.
Compared to previous years, suppliers have already established alternative import channels, including through parallel import. This made it possible to increase supply and reduce pressure on prices, according to the Avito press service.
At the same time, there are no prerequisites for lower prices, says Vladimir Chernov, analyst at Freedom Finance Global. On the contrary, given the continuing difficulties with logistics, growth may continue in the range of 5-10%. In the premium segment, where the share of original European parts is particularly high, the increase in price by the end of 2025 may exceed 40% in annual terms, the analyst admitted. Roman Timashov from Avtodom Altufevo gave a similar forecast.
