Russians' spending on car maintenance and repair services increased by about 30% over the year, car service stations told Izvestia. Run-off adjustment has increased in price by an average of 45% in the Russian Federation, tire service — by 15.8%, and car wash — by 25%, according to Rosstat data. The main reasons are an increase in the price of spare parts, equipment and a shortage of personnel. In this regard, some experts predict a reduction in the number of service stations and a partial return of business to garage service. For more information, see the Izvestia article.

How much have car repair prices increased?

A noticeable jump in car maintenance costs occurred following the results of 12 months. According to Rosstat, in Moscow, from June 2024 to June 2025, the cost of adjusting the collapse of the wheels increased by an average of 33%, to 3,535 rubles. Almost no consumables or spare parts are used in this operation, so that only the cost of the service can be estimated. In the Central Federal District (CFD), the price of this operation increased by 43%, to 3,068 rubles, and in Russia as a whole by an average of 45%, to 2,427 rubles.

The average tire bill increased by 21% in Moscow, to 784 rubles, in the Central Federal District — by 17%, to 676 rubles, and in the Russian Federation — by 16%, to 549 rubles. Car washing has also become more expensive: in the capital, prices have increased by 28%, to 969 rubles, in the Central Federal District — by 25%, to 867 rubles, and in the Russian Federation — by 25%, to 796 rubles.

Similarly, from June 2024 to June 2025, other technical services became more expensive, and the most noticeable jump occurred from December 2024 to February 2025. In addition, the cost of AI-92 gasoline increased (by 10% in Russia) and hard hat insurance (by 8% in Russia).

"The increase in the cost of car service services is really noticeable: on average by 25-35%, depending on the region and the specifics of the work," Alexey Ivanov, owner of the Alliance Trucks commercial vehicle dealership network, told Izvestia.

The work that requires qualified personnel and professional equipment has become especially expensive, for example, adjusting the wheel angles (collapse), tire installation and diagnostics. At the same time, the dynamics depends not so much on the car segment as on the general market conditions, he notes.

The cost of car service services has increased by an average of 30%, the Avtospeccenter Group of Companies told Izvestia, and the Avtorus car service network is recording a 17% increase in its services.

"The cost of a standard hour at a service station has risen from 10% in the premium segment to 40% in the mass market," said Roman Timashov, Director of after-sales services at Avtodom Altufevo. — The cost of a standard hour in the mass segment in the summer of 2024 was 1,500 rubles, and in the summer of 2025 it was already 2,100 rubles. In the premium segment, it also rose from 3,900 to 4,300 rubles.

According to the Mekhanika engine repair company, crankshaft grinding, boring and block honing services have increased in price by 8-12% overall.

Why has car service become more expensive?

Market participants see several factors among the reasons for the price increase.

"The cost of work depends more on the salary of mechanics, but there is a shortage of personnel on the market," Yulia Trushkova, Rolfa's service director, told Izvestia.

The imposition of 10-15% inflation and 15-20% salary growth to attract and retain employees has led to an increase in prices for service stations, according to the company.

"The shortage of personnel is actively pushing up the wage fund of enterprises," Ilya Plisov, a member of the board of the Union of Car Service Stations, told Izvestia.

In the cost of services, the salaries of service employees range from 30 to 60% — this also affected the rise in price of the service for the end user, the expert notes.

— At the same time, overhead costs are increasing: rental of premises, the cost of equipment, energy resources, software, — says Alexey Ivanov from Alliance Trucks.

These costs are borne by the final price of the service, especially if the workshop is open-ended and officially conducts settlements with customers, he added.

— New places where service stations are being opened lose out in terms of rental costs, — said Roman Timashov from Avtodom Altufevo. — The owners of service stations are forced to increase the price list to compensate for the costs.

The introduction of a revolving VAT for small and medium-sized businesses could also have a certain impact on the market.

Starting from January 1, 2025, organizations and individual entrepreneurs applying the simplified taxation system (USN) must pay VAT if their annual incomes exceed 60 million rubles. The rate depends on the amount of annual income: 5% if the amount does not exceed 250 million rubles, and 7% — up to 450 million rubles.

In this regard, the tax burden increased by about 2-2.5 times in accordance with the previous year. And this affected CTC's clients, individuals. Of course, this has affected the cost of services, said the expert of the direction "Popular Front. Analytics" by Gennady Sandyrev.

According to Ilya Plisov from the Union of Car Service Stations, some services began to work according to the general taxation system (GTS), and the consumer now pays for this surcharge.

Izvestia sent a request to the Federal Tax Service.

What will become of the car maintenance market

— Just last month, I spent about 100 thousand rubles on car repairs, despite the fact that a 12-year-old car costs 900 thousand rubles. That is, the repair costs at the service station become disproportionately high in relation to the cost of the vehicle," Peter Shkumatov, coordinator of the Blue Bucket Society movement, told Izvestia. — That's why the next time I changed the spark plugs myself. It turned out to be more profitable to buy a candle key for several hundred rubles and do everything yourself.

According to his estimates, a comprehensive car wash of a medium-sized car costs from 1,500 rubles.

— If you convert it into dollars, you get about $20 per sink. Our car wash prices already exceed the international average (excluding the USA and the EU) by about one and a half times," the expert said.

The consumer is determined to save money — the incentives to abandon service stations and repair garages have increased significantly, said Dmitry Danshov from the Mechanics company. In these circumstances, it is difficult to compensate for the increase in taxes at the expense of prices due to low demand, he added.

Peter Shkumatov believes that the market will be transformed. More and more individual craftsmen will start using their own outlets to provide inexpensive services such as tire service, oil change, candles, filters. It will definitely be cheaper than a hundred.

According to Dmitry Denshov, by the end of the year, a reduction in the number of service stations and an outflow of customers to small garage-type workshops is predicted.
