Tour operators talked about the growing demand for quiet tourism
A new tourist trend is spreading in Russia: in the first half of the year, the tourist flow to the cities of quiet tourism increased. Sortavala, Serpukhov and Rybinsk were among the three most popular cities for such holidays, while Zaraysk and Kirillov showed the largest increase in tourist traffic. This was reported to Izvestia on July 28 by the Tutu travel service.
Experts also attributed Zaraysk, Kirillov, Torzhok, Yuryevets, Shuya, Svetlogorsk, Ples, Gorokhovets, Yuryev-Polsky, Vyazniki and Kasimov to quiet cities. In the first half of 2025, the tourist flow to these places increased by 11% compared to last year.
"Quiet cities are called cities with a good natural and urban environment. There are no dense buildings, tourist crowds and car noise. Such places are chosen by those who are looking for solitude or tired of the metropolis: young couples, middle—aged people and pensioners," said Elizaveta Korotkova, travel journalist and travel service expert.
It turned out that travelers most often go to Sortavala: in the first half of the year, it accounted for 22% of all trips to quiet cities. Serpukhov (13%), Rybinsk (12%), Aleksin and Shuya (10% each) were also on the list of popular destinations for such holidays.
Zaraysk is the leader in the growth of tourist traffic among quiet cities: from January to June 2025, there were 83% more travelers there. Next are Kirillov in the Vologda Oblast (+76%) and Aleksin, a city 60 kilometers from Tula (+57%). Tourist traffic to Torzhok and Yuryevets increased by 28%, and to Svetlogorsk — by 26%. There were also more travelers in Rybinsk, Ples and Gorokhovets — by 20%, and in Yuriev-Polsky — by 15%.
Earlier, on April 18, the Association of Travel Aggregators (ATAG) and booking services reported on the growing demand for travel with children. According to Tutu, such bookings have more than doubled for the May holidays and 2.6 times for the summer.
