Spanish pensioner Cecilia Jimenez, who "restored" a fresco depicting Jesus Christ in 2012, died at the age of 94 in her hometown of Borja. This was reported on December 29 by Cadena SER radio station with reference to the mayor of the city, Eduardo Arilla.

"She (Jimenez. — Ed.) fulfilled her wish to die peacefully, surrounded by the entire Borja community, and this is undoubtedly a huge loss for the city, because a very beloved and loving man died, a man who also gave everything for the sake of the Sanctuary of Mercy," said Arilla.

As the mayor noted, after the unsuccessful restoration, which attracted the attention of the whole world and caused a lot of discussion, the fresco became a popular tourist attraction. Since then, Borja has been experiencing a steady stream of travelers coming to see the famous painting.
