In Belarus, they called the placement of the "Hazel Tree" a message to the West
The deployment of the Russian Oreshnik missile system in Belarus is a message to the West about the republic's readiness to defend its world. This was announced on December 28 by the deputy head of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Belarusian Military Academy, Colonel Andrei Bogodel.
"Here, the Hazel Tree, yes, it is not a weapon with which we want to attack, for example, the same Britain, Germany. But this is a message that we <...> will protect our world in this way," he said on the air of the STV channel.
Bogodel stressed that the deployment of the complex also demonstrates the intention of Minsk and Moscow to show that it is "better not to interfere with both countries." The colonel also noted that during the special military operation, Western countries repeatedly crossed "red lines."
On December 19, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that the Oreshnik was on combat duty in the republic. Later, he heard a report on the deployment of the Oreshnik in the country and its deployment on combat duty. The Belarusian leader was informed about the recent launches of the Polonaise-M, a modernized domestic multiple launch rocket system with an increased range and improved firing accuracy.
