In Lithuania, in 2025, 19 street names related to the Soviet period were changed as part of the law "On the Prohibition of Propaganda of Totalitarian, Authoritarian Regimes and their Ideologies", which aims to "de-Sovietize" public spaces. This was reported on December 28 by the BNS news agency.

"From January 1 to December 10, the address register registered 19 changes in the names of Soviet streets. Last year, there were twice as many such cases — 40," the article says.

The most frequent changes concerned the streets named after the poet Salome Neris. The Registry Center recorded ten such cases. In different municipalities, the former streets of Salome Neris have received new names related to geographical features, local place names or other historical figures. Similar changes affected the streets of Ludas Gira and Pyatras Tsvirka, which were also recognized as associated with Soviet ideology.

On April 10, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture reported that over the past decade, about a thousand settlements in Ukraine have been renamed as part of the country's decommunization policy.

Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) On October 30, Vladimir Medinsky supported the process of returning historical names of settlements in Ukraine.
