Prosecutor's office launched an investigation into a mutilated lion cub in Moscow City

The Moscow Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office has organized an investigation into possible mistreatment of a wild animal that was previously kept in an apartment on the territory of the Moscow City business center. This was reported on December 28 in the Telegram channel of the supervisory authority.

According to preliminary information, on the night of December 25, a blogger from the capital, who had previously posted videos of the animal on social media, handed over to volunteers a lioness about 2.5 months old in extremely serious condition.

"During the initial veterinary examination, the animal revealed numerous injuries: fractures of three limbs, spinal damage, as well as general bone depletion, probably caused by inadequate conditions of care and nutrition," the report says.

The supervisory authority noted that as part of the audit with the participation of relevant specialists, a legal assessment will be given of compliance with the requirements of federal legislation on responsible treatment of animals, the legality of the acquisition and maintenance of wild animals included in the list of prohibited domestic animals, as well as the actions of the owner for signs of a crime under the article on cruelty to animals.

Based on the results of the audit, if there are grounds, measures of the prosecutor's response will be taken. Currently, the lioness is undergoing treatment and rehabilitation under the supervision of specialists.
