Residents of Krasnoarmeysk assisted Russian troops in liberating the city from Kiev's militants. This was announced on December 27 by the commander of a special forces company of the Russian Armed Forces (RF Armed Forces) with the call sign Balsag in an interview with Izvestia.
"A civilian man suggested to us the position where the Nazis were sitting, told us that there was only one militant left, the rest had abandoned him. He said that he often goes out and throws himself at people with a knife. <...> The guys were performing a combat mission and decided to check, and it really turned out that this was the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the commander said.
As it turned out, there was a militant in this position, who transmitted information about the location of Russian troops by radio. At the same time, his command did not leave him any weapons except an axe. The militant was offered to surrender, but he did not take advantage of this opportunity and attacked one of the Russian soldiers, as a result of which he was eliminated.
"The civilians greeted us very good-naturedly, offered us shelter, food and water, and often offered to wash. They showed us a lot of positions," Balsag added.
He noted that the reaction of local residents confirmed that Russian troops are perceived as liberators.
On December 27, the head of the press center of the group of forces, Ivan Bigma, said that the military personnel of the Zapad group of forces repelled five counterattacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kupyansk area within two days. It was noted that two American M113 armored personnel carriers and a Panther armored car were also destroyed during the operation.
