Mindich said there were no contacts with Zelensky.
Ukrainian businessman Timur Mindich, the main person involved in the corruption scandal in the energy sector of Ukraine, said on December 26 that he had not communicated with President Vladimir Zelensky for a long time.
"It's been a long time [since we talked with Zelensky]. <...> Unfortunately, I rarely communicate with him. Now I don't communicate at all," he said in an interview for Ukrayinska Pravda, which was published on the newspaper's YouTube channel.
Mindich also claims that he rarely had contact with Zelensky during his presidency, despite the fact that the media consider him a close friend and associate of the Ukrainian leader. He also denied reports that the businessman often visits the office of the President of Ukraine.
"I think maybe once [I've been to the president's office since 2020]. <...> It's not true that I go there. I don't work [there], I don't have any position," Mindich stressed.
In the same interview, Mindich stated that he was "made extreme" in the corruption scandal in Ukraine. In addition, he denied accusations that he had ever given instructions to Rustem Umerov, who was Minister of Defense. Mindich added that he considers the current period of his life "not the best time."
Earlier, on December 24, the Ukrainian Center for Social and Marketing Research SOCIS reported that almost 40% of Ukrainians are convinced that President Volodymyr Zelensky is involved in a corruption scheme in his entourage. 2,000 people took part in the survey. The statistical error of the study was 2.6%.
On December 23, British military analyst Alexander Mercuris said on his YouTube channel that the corruption scandal in Ukraine had led to a complete drop in Zelensky's rating. On the same day, the leader of the British Workers' Party, George Galloway, noted that Zelensky would not be able to avoid the consequences of the corruption scandal.
