In 2026, only a slight weakening of the ruble is expected, which will not be dramatic. This was announced on December 26 by Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev.

"As this mirroring comes to an end, and as the rate reduction trend is realized, I think that the dynamics of the currency will change somewhat, but we should not expect a dramatic change," TASS quoted him as saying.

He clarified that the expected weakening would not amount to tens of percent, but only units. Moiseev noted that the strengthening of the ruble this year is due to a drop in demand for foreign currency and high interest rates on deposits.

At the same time, in case of excessive weakening of the ruble, measures may be taken to increase the standard for the sale of foreign exchange earnings by exporters.

Bloomberg reported on December 24 that the Russian ruble has shown its strongest strengthening since 1994 over the past 12 months, outpacing the exchange rates of major currencies against the dollar in 2025. In 2025, the ruble entered the top 5 most profitable global assets, second only to platinum, silver, palladium and gold. Since the beginning of the year, the ruble has strengthened by 45% and is currently trading at about 78 rubles per dollar.
