The intelligence services of the two NATO countries have stated that Russia is allegedly developing a new anti-satellite weapon capable of disabling the Starlink satellite constellation of American entrepreneur Elon Musk. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on December 22.

According to intelligence data, we are talking about creating a so-called "zone weapon" that can fill orbits with hundreds of thousands of high-density metal balls capable of simultaneously damaging many satellites.

At the same time, it is noted that such weapons can cause catastrophic consequences for other orbital systems, including Russian and Chinese satellites, which, according to analysts, may deter Moscow from deploying them.

"I don't believe it. To be honest, I would be very surprised if they would do such a thing," said space security expert Victoria Samson.

The article emphasizes that Russia considers Starlink as a serious threat, since this system plays a key role in providing communications and command of Ukrainian troops.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 19 that Russia opposes the deployment of weapons in outer space. He also jokingly called the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS a "Russian secret weapon."
