The weather forecaster warned of a sharp cold snap in Moscow this week

A sharp change in the weather is expected in Moscow this week, with a transition to frosty and snowy conditions. Already in the afternoon on Monday, a cold atmospheric front will arrive in the capital, which will bring snow and lower temperatures. Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia about this on December 22.

"By evening, the thermometer will drop to -5 degrees, icy conditions are expected on the roads. The cold snap will be accompanied by an increase in the westerly wind, which gusts in some areas can reach 12-14 meters per second. Combined with high humidity, this will create a feeling of extreme cold," she said.

Cloudy weather will remain on Tuesday, with some clarifications and light snow. Night temperatures in the region will be -12...-15 degrees, during the day in Moscow it will be about -10. The wind will remain dense and northeasterly, and the air temperature will be significantly lower than the climatic norm — by about 3-5 degrees.

The coldest day of the week, according to Pozdnyakova, will be Wednesday, December 24. At night, the temperature in the capital may drop to -12...-15 degrees. In the afternoon, the cold snap will moderate somewhat due to a northwesterly wind change, and the temperature will rise to -7...-8 degrees. In the future, the weather will be determined by the periphery of the anticyclone, and atmospheric pressure will begin to rise. On Thursday, December 25, precipitation in the form of snow is possible in some places, the night will remain frosty -5...-10 degrees, but during the day the temperature will rise significantly to -1...-6 degrees.

By the end of the working week, the warming will continue: during the daytime, the temperature will reach zero again and slightly positive values up to +1 degree. This relatively warm weather will continue on Saturday, December 27, when the prevailing temperature during the day will range from -1 to -6 degrees.

On December 19, Pozdnyakova announced that the penultimate December weekend was the last warm day of the month. According to her, cold air advection will begin on December 23, which will lead to a sharp drop in temperature during the day.
