The authorities of the Rostov region will conduct additional monitoring of food prices in school canteens after a question posed to Russian President Vladimir Putin during the "Results of the Year". This was announced on December 19 by the regional Ministry of Education.

During the live line, a child from the Rostov region asked Putin about "why the prices of groceries and buns in the cafeteria are rising." The Head of State replied that the government should "closely monitor" what is happening in every sector of the economy, especially with rising prices.

According to the Ministry of Education of the Rostov region, some schools in the region have recorded an increase in prices for bakery products up to 20-25%.

"In a number of municipalities, there was no increase in prices for bakery products sold in school canteens and buffets during 2025. At the same time, in some municipalities this year, there was a 10-25% increase in the cost in the buffets of some schools, where ready—made bakery products are delivered," TASS cites the text of the message.

The reason given is the increase in selling prices at local bakeries. According to the agency, the average price of a bun in school canteens in the region is about 30 rubles.

Earlier in the day, Putin said during the "Results of the Year" that all government policy, including pricing and social policy, should be based on the well-being of the family. The Head of State acknowledged that rising prices for certain products, such as chicken meat, are seriously hitting families' budgets. At the same time, he cited the example of the situation with eggs, where, after criticism, prices were reduced by 10-16%.
