Belgium demands "unlimited" financial guarantees from the European Union (EU) countries in case frozen Russian assets are used. This was reported on December 18 by the EUobserver publication, citing diplomats.

"Belgium wants "unlimited" financial guarantees from the member states in case it has to compensate for losses in excess of the blocked capital of €193 billion," the report says.

At the same time, the publication clarifies that a more likely option is to create a limited package of guarantees that countries will be able to pay voluntarily, so that states such as Hungary and Slovakia can opt out.
