Instead of traditional toys and tinsel, there are sweets and garlands of dried fruits tied with ribbons: the Russian style has become the main trend of New Year's decor. Minimalistic "bride-to—be trees" are also among the popular solutions of the 2025/26 season. The stars of Russian show business were inspired by the aesthetics of luxury Ralph Lauren and the image of oil as a symbol of wealth. For more information, see the Izvestia article.

Russian—style Christmas trees are the main trend of New Year's decor

The undying interest in retro aesthetics, the craving for nostalgia and the fatigue of the perfect digital image gave the warmest trend in New Year's decor in the 2025/26 season - the Russian style. It was adopted by bloggers and decorators. There are dozens of references in social networks. Christmas trees are decorated with sweets "Alyonka", "Teddy Bear" and bars "Mouth Front", garlands of sheep tied with ribbons, cones, flags and Soviet toys.

— I wanted to support this trend — to make a Christmas tree, as if from childhood, to feel nostalgia and that festive atmosphere. My idea was supported by the guys from the floristry studio Skvoz Sad. The apartment was decorated by four decorators for almost 12 hours. It's not just about the Christmas tree, but also about the table, the chandelier, the entrance area and the TV area. There are a lot of decorations — icicles, cones, sweets! However, the number of candies is slightly decreasing every day," blogger Yulia Mochkai, whose decor has received more than a million views on social networks, told Izvestia about the idea.

Designer Marina Bessonova connects the departure from the glossy ideal and the desire for such a homely aesthetic, where the edible becomes not just an ornament, but an understandable symbol of abundance, with the visual language of the Soviet book "On Delicious and Healthy Food."

— The influence of the Soviet book "On delicious and healthy food" is noticeable in the serving sets in different countries of the world, which today continue the general decor of the space. Hence, in my opinion, the current popularity of, for example, Soviet toys even outside of Russia. We're rethinking our legacy right now. This is how the traditions of the Soviet Christmas tree decorated with delicacies and the fashionable modern presentation of some Russian images, such as horses, sound together," Marina Bessonova told Izvestia.

The trend towards nostalgia has been captured, however, this New Year's season is not only in Russia. Foreign bloggers share on social networks ideas of decoration with the help of garlands of colored paper, which were made by Soviet children.

This year, trees have become popular not only in the Russian style, but also "bride-to—be trees" - a minimalistic alternative to the traditional idea of New Year's decoration at home. All that is required is to put a translucent white cloth on the tree over the garland.

Anton Shuranov, the founder of the Collected in the Garden project, offers a juicy option this season — decorate fluffy branches with apples and pears in wax.

Stars' choice: oil tree, luxury Ralph Lauren and Huggy Wagga instead of toys

The stars of Russian show business spend the New Year at work more often — it's the breadiest time, but they also do not deny themselves the pleasure of creating a festive atmosphere at home. None of them have succumbed to the nostalgia trend so far. Singer and TV presenter Olga Orlova has a three-meter artificial fir tree, Inna Kharitonova, founder of Magik-Elka, told Izvestia. The cost is about 80 thousand rubles. The branches were decorated with colorful balls in the same color scheme, toys in the form of cones and 400 m garlands.

The same team was responsible for the New Year's decor for actress Natalia Rudova. On the Christmas tree in her house, there are a scattering of balls — red and champagne-colored, bows and 200 m garlands. The height of the tree is 185 cm. The cost of this is about 27 thousand rubles. It's also artificial.

"Artificial Christmas trees, rather than live ones, are becoming more popular every year," Inna Kharitonova noted.

In each of the two works, the symbol of the year, the horse, takes pride of place. In addition to retro aesthetics, the expert identifies several other current trends in decor. Among them are the "ice" effect, large accents and edible decorations.

— Glass or plastic icicles, crystals, drops, beads with the effect of ice make the Christmas tree truly magical. Another decoration option is with an emphasis on volume, when many balls of the same color range are assembled into a large and spectacular decoration. Such large accents are hung on the Christmas tree not randomly, but with a certain logic. For example, by building a vertical line along the trunk or creating diagonal rows. And finally, the edible decor. Dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, decorative cotton, gilded walnuts, dried fruits, straw figurines and knitted miniatures will look great on the branches," she concluded.

TV presenter Ksenia Borodina also turned to the decorators. She preferred the aesthetics of luxury Ralph Lauren, which sounded in the brilliance of pendants with crystals and deep saturated shades of jewelry. The palette includes red, green, and gold.

Fashion influencer and TV presenter Karina Nigai has perhaps the most shocking Christmas tree this season - made of black latex. It took five hours of work and about 35 thousand rubles to create an almost three-meter tree. It is based on the idea of attracting well—being.

— When I was thinking about what kind of Christmas tree this year would be, the question arose about how I would like to see the coming year. And I want him to be rich not only in events, but also from a financial point of view. I decided that in my new interior, all the decor, including the Christmas tree, will be in black. And if we're talking about finance and black, then it's oil. That's why we have an oil Christmas tree that motivates for a rich 2026," she told Izvestia.

However, the Christmas tree of singer Alsou can compete for the title of the most original with Karina Nigai's Christmas tree. She decorated it on her own. By good tradition, together with the family.

— Are we voting for the scariest Christmas tree? Alsou joked on her social media page under the video where she captured the process.

Up to the top of the branch, the characters of the computer game Poppy Playtime in the horror genre — Huggy Waggy and Kissy Missy - decorated the branches.
