Two strong class M flares were recorded on the Sun.
On the evening of December 5, two strong Class M solar flares were recorded. This was announced on December 7 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"A double strong M flare in area 4299 (formerly 4274) in the center of the disk after several days of silence. In the left (red) video, one can observe the ignition of extended flash ribbons on the surface of the Sun — a sign of a large mass ejection," the laboratory's Telegram channel says.
It is specified that the first outbreak was classified as M1.1 (maximum at 22:21 Moscow time), the second as M8.1 (maximum at 23:39 Moscow time).
The Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG) reported on December 4 that the Sun had its first class M6.1 flare in a week. According to scientists, the flare lasted about 30 minutes. It is also noted that the phenomenon was accompanied by violations of HF radio communications.
On December 6, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS reported that the largest sunspot complex in 2025 reached the Earth-facing side of the Sun a week earlier. It was reported that, despite the high estimated probability of high-level outbreaks, no record-breaking powerful outbreaks had been recorded by observers five days earlier. Scientists noted that only an increased background of X-ray radiation is recorded, indicating a continuous release of energy and heating of the plasma.
