The scientist told about Santa Claus-like spots on the Sun
Giant sunspots, shaped like Santa Claus on a reindeer sled, can be seen through a smartphone camera or a special filter from Moscow and other regions of the country. This was announced on December 5 by a senior researcher at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). Evgeny Kravchenko.
"If you point your phone's camera at the Sun or look at it through a filter, you can see dark spots through the haze of clouds, similar to Santa Claus on a reindeer sled. In fact, these are giant sunspots. A few days ago, a complex of three closely spaced active regions appeared on the visible side of the solar disk: 4294, 4296 and 4298. The size of the largest of them exceeds the diameter of the Earth by several times," she explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The expert clarified that the spots are especially clearly visible at dawn or dusk, when the star is low above the horizon and the light passes through a large thickness of the atmosphere. However, she urged to remember that observing the Sun with the naked eye, even through clouds, is dangerous because of the intense light and heat radiation. Kravchenko stressed that it is strictly forbidden to observe the Sun through binoculars or a telescope without a special solar filter.
On November 12, Science X magazine reported the discovery of a super-powerful "star factory" in the universe. It was noted that the Y1 galaxy is forming stars at a rate about 180 times faster than the Milky Way.
