Eiffel Tower closed due to strikes in Paris
The Eiffel Tower, Paris' main tourist attraction, was closed to visitors on Thursday due to a nationwide strike. The relevant information was published on the monument's official website on September 18.
"Due to the nationwide strike on September 18, the Eiffel Tower is currently closed," the statement said.
However, the area under the tower remains accessible to visitors until 21:00 (22:00 Moscow time).
Earlier in the day, the newspaper Le Figaro reported that the French authorities expect almost 900,000 protesters across the country, of which from 50,000 to 100,000 people will take to the streets of Paris. It was clarified that the activists plan to pass through Republic Square and reach the Nation Square. In an email sent by the police to local businesses located along the route of the march, they were warned that they could become the target of aggressive groups.
