Mal Explorer: Samsung's new products are practically the same as the gadgets of 2024
The Galaxy S25 FE smartphone and the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra tablet turned out to be extremely similar in their capabilities to the gadgets of the previous generation. Pre-order of new Samsung devices has opened in Russia. The editors were among the first to study the budget flagships. Who will benefit from the new devices
Samsung's new products are not much different from the gadgets of the previous generation. Izvestia came to that conclusion after testing the devices. Pre-order for them opened in Russia on September 4. The editors tested the gadgets of this line: the Galaxy S25 Fan Edition smartphone and the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra tablet. Both models belong to the category of budget flagships, that is, powerful devices in an affordable range. And although they are indistinguishable from the models of last year, they have formed a large audience due to their pricing policy.
— We predict a high demand for new products, especially among the GenZ generation and those who choose current and modern gadgets with flagship features, but on a more affordable budget. We attribute a special interest in devices to the presence of Galaxy AI. More affordable device formats will be among the leaders in sales this season," the press service of the Galaxystore network explained.
They noted that all devices supplied in the Russian Federation have all the necessary applications and pre-installed domestic software in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation. It is clarified that after the first activation, there is a suggestion to install the recommended set of domestic applications, including RuStore, MAX, Gosuslug services, etc. There were no domestic software samples provided to the editorial staff for testing.
One of the key advantages of the new gadgets is their ability not just to execute commands, but to understand the needs of users. They help in everyday life, from creating content to solving work tasks. For example, the Galaxy S25 FE smartphone is positioned as an affordable flagship, equipped with a Galaxy S25-level camera and a full package of artificial intelligence-based functions.
The new Tab S11 and Tab S11 Ultra tablets are presented as transformer devices. All models are equipped with AI technologies, which have already become an integral part of modern human life.
The pros and cons of the new line
According to Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, the S25 and S25 Fan Edition are almost the same, but the latter costs 20 thousand less and this can be a key factor when choosing a gadget.
— To date, this is the most potentially massive device in the flagship line from the 50-60 thousand rubles segment. I predict that it will be sold in very large volumes. This is largely due to the fact that Samsung has changed its pricing policy in Russia. After all, the devices are very competitive at the exit, and their cost is lower than in Europe, which gives sales an additional boost," he believes.
As for the Tab S11 Ultra tablet, the speaker said that there are practically no changes compared to the S10, except for the thickness. The expert considers multitasking to be a strong point, with the ability to open up to five windows with different tasks and arrange them on the screen in any order. This gives a new perception to such products.
— In many ways, the Ultra version of the Tab S11 is the maximum diagonal on the market. Other competitors, such as from Apple, are more expensive, they can do less, and here the S-Pen electronic stylus is also included. It turns out to be a flagship device with a large diagonal, which is getting closer to full—fledged computers," he concluded.
The S25 Fan Edition is a strange hybrid of the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy S25 in terms of consumer qualities. In almost the same case dimensions as the A56 (also ultra-thin and elegant), but instead of a mid-range processor, there is a flagship Exynos of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (or 8 Gen 3) level. The battery was "cut" from 5,000 mAh to 4,900 mAh in comparison with the A56 in order to allocate a little more cooling space for the hot processor, the editor-in-chief stated. — It's obvious that the FE version was created to compete with the United States and other countries where Chinese manufacturers are not strong, and the younger Google Pixel and iPhone models will have to resist the smartphone. That's why it looks so strange and not very competitive in Russian conditions. For example, the device's camera is worse than that of any competitors on the market — it will give acceptable quality only in clear sunny weather," said Evgeny Kharitonov.
The expert believes that buyers will receive a smartphone for 55 thousand rubles with cameras at the level of Chinese smartphones for 35-38 thousand, but with a processor at the level of Chinese smartphones for 55-60 thousand. He pointed out that the smartphone is close to the A56 for those who need a reserve of processor power and at least some zoom. — Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra is the best Android tablet today, the pinnacle of almost everything in terms of technology: display quality and brightness, processor power, drive performance, camera quality, battery capacity, slim body. Among competitors on Android, the Honor MagicPad 2 12.3 is more or less close to it, but the processor in it is slower by about 35-40%," the expert pointed out.
He noted that this tablet is large and expensive, but it is still out of competition among Android models in terms of technical excellence. Even though the device hasn't changed much since the S10 Ultra.
— The Galaxy S25 FE is a complex device. The differences from the full—fledged flagship S25+ are minor: a more primitive screen with relatively low brightness and clarity, a visually outdated design with fairly wide screen bezels, and another processor made in-house by Samsung. The only really important feature of the FE is only 8 GB of RAM, which by the standards of 2025 is completely insufficient for the flagship," Nikita Boguslavsky, editor—in—chief of Technologies in T-Z, summed up.
The Fan Edition seems to be aimed at inattentive users: those who are not ready to delve deeply into the characteristics, but will notice a pleasant difference in price. However, they may be disappointed in the process of using them — for games, this smartphone, for example, is designed much worse than Chinese mid-budget smartphones for the same price, he recalled.
According to IT expert Sergey Pomortsev, both new products are competitive. The Galaxy S25 FE has one significant competitor in the form of Huawei's Pura 80, which operates in the same price range, but many consumers trust the Samsung brand more, so the chances of Russian buyers choosing in its favor are higher. As for the tablet, the expert is convinced that its two main drawbacks are the high (over 100 thousand rubles) price for the Ultra version and the lack of support for peripheral devices of the previous generation, with which the Tab S10 gets along well.
