Memorial Day of the Holy Martyr Basilisk Komansky
On June 4, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the Holy Martyr Basiliscus of Comana, who suffered for the faith together with the brothers Cleonicus and Eutropius under the Roman Emperor Maximian Galerius. Basilisk, like his brothers, was born in the 3rd century in the ancient Greek city of Amazonia, the former capital of the Kingdom of Pontus. The martyrs were forced to renounce Christ under torture. However, miraculously, their wounds healed. After witnessing the healing, many pagans converted to Christianity. Soon, the Basilisk was brought to trial in a pagan temple. At that time, holy fire descended upon him and burned the temple along with the idols. After that, the righteous man was ordered to be executed and his body thrown into the river. Local Christians bought the Basilisk's relics and secretly buried them. Later, a church was built on this site, where the relics of the saint were transferred. Many healings took place near them.
