Zakharova exchanged New Year's gifts with Kim Jong-un's sister

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova received a white vase decorated with gold as a New Year's gift from the sister of North Korean leader Kim Yo Jong. The diplomat announced this on December 30 in her Telegram channel.

"Today, the DPRK Ambassador to Moscow, Shin Hong Chol, gave me a gift from Comrade Kim Yo Jong, deputy head of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, on the occasion of the New Year," Zakharova wrote.

Attached to the vase was an appeal from Kim Yo Jong, in which she wished the diplomat and her family well-being, good luck, love and fulfillment of desires.

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that she received the gift only on Thursday evening, December 29, so she did not have time to prepare a response. According to Zakharova, she turned to the artist Nikas Safronov, who created a portrait of Kim Yo Jong Sangina in just one night. They chose the photo for the work together.

"Being not personally acquainted with Comrade Kim Yo Jong, Nikas and I thought that this photo captures the most important, at first glance incompatible qualities: tenderness and femininity with strength and determination," concluded the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On December 27, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the upcoming New Year. The head of the DPRK noted the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the states and called this alliance sincere and indestructible. Later, on December 30, Putin sent back congratulations on the New Year and Christmas.
