The losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) last month amounted to 26 thousand soldiers. This was announced on Monday, December 29, by the head of the White House, Donald Trump.

"Their <...> still, there are a lot, you know, a lot of people, that's a lot of people. 26,000 people died last month," he said during a press conference following talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The American president expressed hope for the early achievement of peace, which, as he stressed, is necessary so that "Ukraine stops losing 26,000 soldiers a month."

Russian President Vladimir Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said on the same day that Trump, speaking with the Russian leader on the phone, said that he had recommended that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky not expect to receive a respite for the Armed Forces. The American leader, as Ushakov noted, called on the Ukrainian president to focus on reaching a comprehensive agreement that would lead to a real end to the conflict.

On December 18, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, announced that since the beginning of the year, the Donetsk operational and tactical group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had lost 225,000 people and 242 tanks. In addition, the enemy lost more than 2.2 thousand armored combat vehicles and over 3.6 thousand guns and mortars. According to the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, this accounted for almost half of the losses of the Ukrainian army in the area of the special military operation.
