CNN learned about the CIA's drone strikes on a Venezuelan port facility
Representatives of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States (CIA) used unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to strike a port facility located on the coast of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where drugs and ships were allegedly stored for their distribution. CNN reported this on December 30, citing sources.
"The CIA conducted a drone strike on a port facility on the coast of Venezuela. <...> Which was the first known US attack on a target inside the country. The strike <...> was aimed at a remote pier on the coast of Venezuela, which, according to the US government, is used by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store drugs and transfer them to boats for further transportation," the material says.
The channel's interlocutors clarified that this operation was carried out this month, but it was not immediately reported. They stressed that there was no one at the facility at the time of the attack, and accordingly, according to their information, there were no casualties as a result of the incident.
One of the sources, speaking about the effectiveness of the actions taken, said that the US military managed to eliminate both the facility itself and the boats on it. He called the strikes "symbolic," and also noted that they did not manage to attract much attention.
US President Donald Trump announced a day earlier that a large facility had been destroyed in Venezuela, where, according to him, ships were allegedly loaded with drugs. He stated that this zone "no longer exists," at that time he did not disclose the name of the destroyed port building.
A few days earlier, on December 27, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro pointed to Washington's attempts to impose a colonial management model on his republic in order to appropriate natural resources.
