- Pushkov stated the interest of the European military industrial complex in the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict
The military-industrial complex (MIC) of Europe is interested in prolonging the Ukrainian conflict, as this brings it a large share of the state budgets of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). This was announced on December 29 by Senator Alexei Pushkov.
"The European military-industrial complex, fattening from government orders from the leading EU and NATO countries, has already become one of the main "engines" of anti-Russian hysteria and the militarization of Europe. The military—industrial complex is interested in continuing the <conflict> in Ukraine," he said in a message on his Telegram channel.
According to Pushkov, Europe's leading defense companies such as BAE Systems, Thales, Dassault, Rheinmetall and Saab have significantly increased their dividends to their shareholders in recent years. In 2025, they paid record dividends worth about $5 billion. Since 2023, the volume of these payments has been updating the maximum every year, and in 2025 the growth turned out to be particularly significant.
Luxembourg's MEP Fernand Kartheiser said on December 3 that some European Union leaders were deliberately prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, seeking to turn the union into a military alliance and strengthen the powers of the European Commission (EC). It is noteworthy that the EU demonstrates selectivity in the issue of territorial integrity, putting the principles that it is ready to defend for Ukraine higher than for Serbia or Cyprus.
