Drivers of hybrid cars are significantly more likely to die in accidents than drivers in cars with internal combustion engines, which may be due to the combination of gasoline engines with electric motors in hybrids. The Times newspaper wrote about this on December 29, citing experts.

In their opinion, the increased mortality is caused by a combination of gasoline engines, batteries and electric motors, which are more difficult to control and more prone to fire.

The author of the article notes that emergency services also need to undergo special training and have special equipment to combat the ignition of hybrid vehicles.

In March 2025, the American automaker Ford announced the recall of several thousand Ford Kuga plug-in hybrid vehicles after it became clear that there was a serious risk of a short circuit in the vehicles, which potentially greatly increases the risk of fire, the material says.

Experts also believe that the higher weight of hybrid cars is an additional risk. Thus, the additional weight of batteries and electric motors changes the dynamics of the car and the energy distribution in collisions.

A new charging hub for electric vehicles has been opened in Moscow's Lefortovo district. The capacity of the new complex is 1.5 MW. The Lefortovsky complex can service up to 500 vehicles per day, while 20 vehicles can be charged at the same time. It has nine 120 kW fast charging stations with the ability to simultaneously recharge two cars each.
