The MP assessed the prospects for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict
Alexey Chepa, first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, expressed the opinion that US President Donald Trump currently adheres to the key line formed in Anchorage on the issue of agreements on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, which inspires serious hopes and opens up prospects.
In conversation with Lenta.Ru On Monday, December 29, Chepa noted that the negotiation process is developing in waves: the parties reach agreements, after which Europe tries to propose alternative approaches, which causes fluctuations from one position to another.
"Now it seems to me that Trump adheres to the basic line that was achieved in Anchorage, and this gives us all great hopes and prospects," Chepa said.
The deputy described the meeting of the American leader with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky as positive.
Trump himself described the meeting as "wonderful." During the event, he also stated that Russia and Ukraine are now closer to resolving the conflict than ever before. Negotiations between Trump and Zelensky began on December 28. The leaders were expected to discuss security guarantees for Kiev and their terms, as well as the issue of Washington's economic assistance for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Prior to that, Trump posted on his page on the Truth Social network about a productive conversation with the President of the Russian Federation. On December 26, the American president called Zelensky's proposals for resolving the conflict "irrelevant" until he personally approves them.
