Relations between South Korea and Russia may improve in the near future. This was announced on December 29 by the President of the Republic Lee Jae-myung.

"It seems that relations with Russia will improve soon," he said to a RIA Novosti reporter while speaking to journalists at a press center.

Lee Jae-myung said on December 3 that Seoul considers relations with Moscow important and will continue to communicate with it, despite the difficult situation in bilateral relations.

On December 21, the Korea Times reported that the South Korean authorities allegedly held closed-door talks with the Russian side on various topical issues for the first time in a long time.

Later, on December 21, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, denied media reports about alleged official talks with the South Korean side. Zakharova noted that Russia does not hold any consultations with South Korea on the DPRK nuclear issue.
