Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro underwent a phrenic nerve block procedure to treat persistent hiccups. This was reported on December 29 by The Guardian newspaper, citing a statement by the politician's wife Michelle.

"The doctors who treated Bolsonara later stated that they had managed to block the right phrenic nerve, and ordered a repeat procedure 48 hours later to block the left one," the material says.

The doctors said that the procedure was successful.

Earlier, on November 22, Bloomberg reported on Bolsonaro's arrest. It was clarified that the judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil, Alexander de Moraes, indicated in the ruling that there is "a real threat that Bolsonaro may try to find asylum in a foreign embassy in Brazil." On the same day, the politician was taken into custody due to the threat of escape after trying to remove an electronic bracelet.

Prior to that, on September 11, Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup against the current leader of the country, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.
