Russians were warned about a new scheme of fraud with Internet tariffs
The scammers began using a scheme with the alleged renewal of the home Internet tariff in order to gain access to personal data of citizens. This was reported on December 29.
According to RIA Novosti, the attackers are calling Russians, giving them their home address and offering to change the terms of use of the Internet. If a person reports that they no longer live at the specified address, they are asked to exclude them from the customer base. To do this, the scammers are asked to dictate a code from an SMS, after which they gain access to a personal account with personal data.
After receiving the confirmation code, scammers can log into the user's account and use the information contained there for criminal purposes, including for further financial fraud.
Earlier, on December 27, it was reported that the Investigative Committee of Russia had suppressed the activities of a criminal group in the Kaliningrad region suspected of embezzling funds from its members. According to the agency, the attackers fraudulently obtained notarized powers of attorney and access to bank accounts of military personnel, stealing more than 1 million rubles. A criminal case on fraud has been opened against the three defendants.
