Russia will support China in the event of an escalation in the Taiwan Strait. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with TASS on December 28.
"As for the possible escalation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the procedure for dealing with such situations is spelled out in the Agreement on Good—Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation with China, which is fundamental to bilateral relations, dated July 16, 2001," Lavrov said.
