The opening of the new ice arena, built on the basis of the Olympus Olympic Reserve Sports School, took place on December 27 in Obninsk in the Kaluga Region with the participation of Mikhail Degtyarev, Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Degtyarev congratulated the region on the opening of a new sports facility.

"Every year I come to the Kaluga region to open ice arenas. This is a trend, this is the policy of the governor and our president Vladimir Putin, thanks to whose decisions we have commissioned more than 500 sports facilities this year," Degtyarev said.

He also noted the high demand for sports facilities in the country. Hockey players and figure skaters will practice at the new ice arena.

"I want to congratulate the residents of Obninsk on this wonderful event, the opening of the second arena," said Vladislav Shapsha, Governor of the Kaluga Region.

The new ice arena was built in 2024 with the financial support of the Russian Ministry of Sports as part of the federal project "Business Sprint (I choose Sports)".

On July 26, Degtyarev, during a working trip to the Rostov region, held a meeting with Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar and discussed with him the implementation of federal programs in the field of physical culture and sports. During the trip, the Minister also visited sports infrastructure facilities. Thus, as part of federal projects, an indoor football arena and a complex of specialized cycling trails were built in Rostov-on-Don, as well as the V.I. Alekseev weightlifting center in Shakhty.
