In the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), a criminal case has been opened into the deaths of an adult man and an 11-year-old girl as a result of a minivan sinking under the ice of the Lena River near Darkylakh. This is reported by the republican SU of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

The tragedy occurred on the morning of December 27 at an unofficial Lena river crossing. A Toyota Estima minivan driven by a 23-year-old young man fell through the ice at the site of the sewage treatment plant.

According to the Yakutia Rescue Service, six people managed to get out of the car. One of them reached the nearest houses and called the emergency services, and rescuers found four more on the roof of the sunken car. The body of the fifth man, about 60 years old, was found on the shore 50 m from the sinkhole site, writes IA YakutiaMedia. Exposure to low temperatures had previously led to his death.

Later, rescuers from the Yakutia Rescue Service and the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations retrieved the car from the water. It contained the body of an 11-year-old girl.

As it turned out, the car was traveling to the village of Churapcha, and its driver provided private intercity passenger transportation services. On the fact of the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two people by negligence."

It is noted that at the time of the incident and the subsequent work of rescuers, the air temperature in Yakutsk was -47 degrees. The driver and the surviving passengers are currently in the hospital.
