The liberation of the border town of Sudzha in the Kursk region was a well-planned operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which took place in two stages. Alexander Tyuterev, commander of the 60th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade (ODSHB) Veterans, Hero of Russia, told Izvestia about this on December 26.

"It's just that the operation was done tactically correctly. Agreed, done. Everything is checked out exactly in time: <...> who goes where, who goes in on the flanks," he said.

The commander explained that the first stage of the operation was to detonate bridges mined by militants in their rear in order to cut off the grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and prevent it from gaining a foothold in the building. In the second stage, Russian units immediately entered Sudzha, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, having remained cut off, began to retreat in vehicles and often broke off from the destroyed crossings.

"Not only were they marching in front, but units were also coming in on the flanks. From the left flank <...> our company entered from the Kurilovka side, and the Airborne Forces additionally entered from the right flank. <...> No chaos <...> — this is a clearly completed task, a common task completed by the units of the Ministry of Defense"

In December, soldiers of the 11th Separate Guards Airborne Assault Brigade from Ulan-Ude, who participated in Operation Potok to liberate Sudzha, were awarded the highest state awards. During the ceremony, 12 servicemen of the unit received the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree with swords, the Order of Alexander Nevsky with Swords, the Order of Courage, the Medal for Bravery and the medal of Luke of the Crimea. The state awards were presented to the soldiers by the commander with the call sign Barkas.
