Narcologist Holdin dispelled the myth of hangover remedies
Vitaly Holdin, a psychiatrist and narcologist, chief freelance specialist at the Moscow Region Ministry of Health, said that most of the so-called hangover remedies can only partially alleviate the condition by reducing symptoms such as nausea and headache.
According to him, relying on medications and dietary supplements for a hangover is not only pointless, but also dangerous.: they do not eliminate the main harmful effects of alcohol on the body, including damage to the cardiovascular system, liver and brain, and in some cases can enhance it. The doctor explained that painkillers increase the load on the liver and kidneys, and drugs with phenobarbital in combination with alcohol can provoke psychosis and even coma, Radio 1 reported with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Moscow region on Friday, December 26.
The specialist also stressed that it is absolutely impossible to remove a hangover with a new dose of alcohol, caffeine or energy drinks, as this only worsens the condition. According to him, the only reliable way to avoid a hangover is to abstain from alcohol.
Earlier on December 26, nutritionist Lyubov Gorelova told how to avoid a hangover when drinking alcohol during the New Year holidays. The specialist noted that the right choice of drinks plays an important role. She urged to give preference to proven brands and avoid cheap alcohol or exotic cocktails.
On December 25, Anton Masyakin, Moscow's chief narcologist, said that restoring lost trace elements would help to cope with a hangover. According to him, in particular, fluid is very important to a person the very next day after drinking alcohol, because there comes a period of dehydration when a number of macro- and microelements are washed out of the body, notes 360.ru . In his opinion, brine without vinegar or functional water for athletes can be used to restore the body after drinking alcohol, the Moscow City News agency reports.
