- The Central Bank has presented an updated banknote with a face value of 1,000 rubles.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has presented an updated 1,000-ruble banknote dedicated to Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Federal District. This was announced on December 26 on the regulator's website.
"Here we see the Volga, which is the main symbol that unites many regions of the Volga Federal District. The Saratov Automobile Bridge stretches across the Volga, one of the longest bridges in Europe and a Meteor flying through the waves. On the right is the Palace of Farmers, a famous monument of modern architecture in the city of Kazan," RIA Novosti quoted Sergey Belov, deputy chairman of the regulator, as saying.
According to Belov, the design of the banknote took into account the preferences of citizens who chose the sights of the Volga region as part of the voting. In addition, a QR code is placed on the banknote, leading to the page of the Bank of Russia's website, where information about the decoration and signs of authenticity is posted.
Earlier in the day, Belov announced that the banknotes of 1,000 rubles of the 1997 model will remain in circulation until they are naturally replaced with new banknotes. He said that new banknotes with a face value of 1,000 rubles will be put into circulation gradually. This process, according to the deputy chairman of the Central Bank, can take up to one and a half years.
