St. Petersburg BAZ plant launches mass production of trucks

Serial production of heavy all-wheel drive cargo bases has started at the Romanov JSC production site in St. Petersburg. This was reported from the scene by a correspondent of Izvestia on December 26.

The model range includes chassis, dump trucks, tractor trucks and flatbed vehicles. They have a 6×6 wheel formula, independent spring suspension, 400 mm ground clearance and high geometric maneuverability. The equipment is designed to work in remote regions of the North and Siberia, in quarries and during road construction.

It is planned to produce up to 600 BASE vehicles in 2026. The production capacity of the enterprise will allow to increase the volume to 2000 units per year. More than 800 jobs have been created at the plant.

"BAZ cars are designed to replace heavy off-road vehicles of European brands that have left the Russian market. Pre-production samples were tested in the Volga region, the Urals and the Leningrad Region. Two vehicles have been sent to Gazprom's divisions for operational testing," the company's representatives said.

The sales and service network includes more than 60 locations in Russia.

Earlier, on December 3, it was reported that the new tractor was put into pilot operation by Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg. The car arrived in the Far North under its own power from St. Petersburg. The tractor will be used to transport goods as part of a road train with increased gross weight in severe road conditions.
