Teeth of extinct sharks found on the outskirts of Simferopol
Fossilized teeth of ancient sharks were found on the southeastern outskirts of Simferopol. The remains belong to the extinct genus Protolamna, belonging to the order lamnoid sharks, according to the Telegram channel "Fossils 2.0".
The finds were made near the village of Lugovoye, on the southern slope of Mount Kara-Oba. It is not uncommon to find traces of ancient marine life on this territory, writes IA SevastopolMedia
Mount Kara-Oba is considered one of the most interesting geological sites in the vicinity of the Crimean capital. There are oolitic limestones of the lower Barremian, whose age reaches 125 million years. Nummulites, marine microorganisms typical of the Middle Eocene, are found in the rock structure.
Earlier it was reported that marble crayfish from the tropics settled in reservoirs on the territory of Crimea. A species new to the region was caught in the Alma, Belbek and Chernaya estuaries.
