A criminal case has been opened in the Magadan region over the death of an elderly passenger in an SUV in an accident. This is reported by the Regional Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The accident occurred on October 23rd on the 1753rd km of the federal highway R-504 Kolyma. According to the agency, the 58-year-old driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 SUV lost control. The car overturned right on the roadway.

As a result of the accident, a 71-year-old passenger of the car was seriously injured. He died on the spot before the ambulance arrived. The driver was taken to the hospital, MagadanMedia news agency writes.

A criminal case has been opened into the fatal accident under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum sanction of this article provides for up to five years in prison.
