Santa Claus completed his 70th circumnavigation of the world on December 25, the day when Catholics and Protestants celebrate Christmas. This was announced by the Joint Aerospace Defense Command of North America (NORAD).
"The [NORAD] crews continue to monitor while Santa is heading home," a message on the agency's page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The penultimate point visited by Santa was Anchorage— the largest city in Alaska. According to the NORAD website, which tracks the character's movements, Santa delivered about 8.2 billion gifts during his journey.
NORAD has been publishing Santa Claus route data on its official website, maintaining this tradition for almost 70 years - since 1955, when monitoring was first initiated by the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD).
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump said that Santa Claus is a good person. He also noted that he was watching Santa to make sure that he was not letting someone bad into the country.
On the night of December 25, the US military recorded a flight of Santa Claus over the territory of Russia. According to NORAD radars, the appearance of the fairy-tale character was recorded in Chukotka, Siberia, the Far East, the Urals and the Volga region.
Santa Claus went on a trip around the world on Christmas Eve to deliver gifts to children all over the world. On December 16, the Pentagon announced that it was using a network of 49 radars, as well as infrared satellites, to track Santa Claus' movements on Christmas Night.
