Over the past day, 257 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 27 people were killed and 317 injured. 19 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 25 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 101 accidents, 56 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 45 outside their area of operation, eight pedestrians were killed, 96 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 underage pedestrians, 13 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.

12 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 15 road users needed medical help. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

Over the past day, 29 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 31 young road users, including 14 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that child passengers are one of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users. While driving in a car with a child, it is important to choose a safe driving style: do not be distracted at the wheel, do not exceed the set speed limit, observe a safe side interval and distance between vehicles, and avoid risky driving, overtaking, and entering oncoming traffic, even in permitted areas.

"In addition, we urge drivers to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities, especially when approaching intersections and unregulated pedestrian crossings. We recommend that you slow down to the minimum speed in advance when approaching them in order to have time to stop and allow pedestrians to pass. Do not rush to start moving even when the traffic light allows you to do so — first make sure that the pedestrian crossing in front of you is completely free," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The ministry also stressed that motorists should exercise extreme caution when maneuvering or driving through courtyards and adjacent territories, as well as in parking lots near shopping malls and shops, which is especially important before the New Year holidays due to the influx of customers to retail outlets.

Earlier, on December 22, it became known that following the results of 11 months of this year, the number of accidents involving car—sharing drivers in Moscow decreased by 7.3%, and the number of victims in them - by 3.7%.
