Over the past 24 hours, 257 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 32 people were killed and 300 injured. 23 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 24 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 87 accidents, 44 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 43 outside their area of operation, nine pedestrians were killed, and 80 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 17 underage pedestrians, seven of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas. 14 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 13 more road users, including one child, required medical attention. Six bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. Over the past day, 31 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 36 young road users, including 17 passengers, were injured. Two children were killed: a passenger and a pedestrian.

In the Orenburg region, on 286 km of the federal highway M-5 Ural, a 42-year-old crossover driver overook into the oncoming lane, where he collided with another passenger car, which then crashed into a minivan moving towards her. The 48-year-old driver of the second passenger car and his two passengers were killed in the accident, including a two-year-old girl who was in a child restraint in the rear passenger seat. Two more passengers of this car, including a five-year-old boy, as well as three passengers of the minivan were hospitalized with injuries. The injured child was also in the back passenger seat of his car in a child restraint.

In Tambov, a 52-year-old car driver, while turning into the adjacent territory in a prohibited place, ran over an eight-year-old pedestrian who was walking along the sidewalk unaccompanied by adults. The second grader died.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urges drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more attentive on the roads of settlements and cities, especially when turning into the surrounding area, driving in a residential area, near preschool, school and sports organizations. When approaching them, it is necessary to reduce the speed to the minimum in advance in order to have time to stop and allow young pedestrians to pass. Special care should be taken when maneuvering or driving through courtyards and adjacent territories, the department emphasizes.

"We also remind parents of underage pedestrians of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. Even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

Earlier, on December 22, it became known that following the results of 11 months of this year, the number of accidents involving car—sharing drivers in Moscow decreased by 7.3%, and the number of victims in them - by 3.7%.
