On the night of Wednesday, December 24, an explosion occurred on Yeletskaya Street in the south-east of Moscow, which claimed the lives of three people, two of whom were employees of the Traffic Patrol Service (DPS). What is known about the incident

The explosion occurred at about 1:30 Moscow time, fragments flew along the road. According to eyewitnesses, its sound was very loud — it could be heard even through headphones. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia first reported two injured traffic police officers. The explosion site was cordoned off, ambulances and criminologists arrived.

Later, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported that the injured employees had died. In addition, a man who was nearby died with them.

The criminal case

A criminal case was opened into the explosion under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Assault on the life of a law enforcement officer"), Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal trafficking of explosive devices"). Investigative and investigative actions are underway. The Main Directorate of the Russian Interior Ministry in Moscow indicated that assistance would be provided to the families of the deceased policemen.
