- The pharmacologist warned about the risk of a sharp decrease in blood pressure after the flu
After suffering from influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) patients have a significantly increased risk of a sharp decrease in blood pressure when changing body position. Alexander Bykov, a clinical pharmacologist and Director of Healthcare Economics at R-Pharm Group of Companies, warned about this on December 23.
"The most sensitive to these changes are the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Inflammation leads to an increase in the load on the myocardium, changes in vascular tone, impaired microcirculation and fluid distribution," he explained in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».
The expert noted that in the post—viral period, against the background of taking medications to control blood pressure and diuretics, the likelihood of orthostatic hypotension increases - a condition when the pressure drops sharply when getting out of bed. This can lead to dizziness and loss of consciousness.
Bykov also pointed out that in patients with chronic lung diseases such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), recovery from a viral infection slows down. This is manifested by a prolonged cough, a feeling of lack of air, decreased stamina and severe fatigue. In addition, standard therapy may temporarily lose its effectiveness or cause increased side effects.
The pharmacologist emphasized that in most cases, post-viral changes are reversible, and the severity of symptoms gradually decreases as the body recovers. Rational pharmacotherapy can be used to mitigate the residual manifestations of the disease and support a return to normal activity, Bykov concluded.
The day before, public health expert, immunologist, Candidate of medical Sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov told Izvestia that any visual impairment after suffering from the flu requires a medical examination. He noted that some lesions can be painless. At the same time, a person may feel a loss of visual fields or a sharp drop in its acuity, double vision, difficulty focusing. When the retina of the eye is affected, perception becomes distorted — objects can change their shape and acquire bends that do not exist in reality.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
