Elena Chulkova, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Synergy, PhD, oncologist, told whether antiviral drugs or a vaccine would save from the appearance of papillomas.

In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On Monday, December 24, she noted that in the treatment of HPV infection in Russia, immunomodulators, local cytostatic agents, drugs based on interferons and their inducers are used. According to the clinical recommendations of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, immunocorrective therapy is used only as part of a combination treatment, for example, together with the removal of papillomas, especially in cases of relapses, multiple formations and immune disorders.

She stressed that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent HPV, notes 360.ru . Modern vaccines protect against the main oncogenic and low-oncogenic types of the virus, but they do not treat an existing infection and do not act against all strains. Vaccination shows the greatest effectiveness before the onset of sexual activity and is recommended for children and adolescents. In a number of regions of Russia, it is carried out free of charge under the compulsory medical insurance policy.

On December 19, Chulkova spoke about the causes of papilloma malignancy into a cancerous tumor. According to her, the risk of degeneration of cutaneous papillomas into squamous cell carcinoma of the skin is extremely low, while genital warts caused by moderately oncogenic types of virus are the main cause of cancer, reports RT.

In November, volunteer pediatrician Daria Bashkina told how to protect herself from the human papillomavirus. According to her, a positive HPV test is not a contraindication to vaccination — vaccination will not get rid of an existing infection, but it will protect against other strains of the virus.

In September, Yulia Drozhzhina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, announced the need to include HPV vaccination in the national vaccination calendar. According to her, doctors recommend giving this vaccine to girls "optimally up to the age of 14," since it is during this period that it "really reduces the risks of infection and the development of cancer," the NSN notes.
