The State Duma responded to Russia's accusations of claiming European territories
Media reports citing intelligence data on Russia's alleged claims to European territory are linked to the desire of the leadership of Ukraine's allies to justify the allocation of funds to support Kiev. This was stated by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Monday, December 22.
"We see how the aggressive Russophobic policies of some Western countries have intensified in recent years. Militarization is on the rise. This includes increasing one's own expenses for the war, and escalating the situation, and dispelling a certain fear among the population, and thus avoiding social problems," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the parliamentarian, the appearance in the Western media right now of information that Moscow is allegedly planning to seize the European part of the former USSR is intended to explain the growing costs of militarization of Ukraine and the fight against Russia.
"We know about corruption and theft in Ukraine, we know about non-repayable loans, and the losses of European states. And all this will need to be explained somehow to the citizens of European countries. To explain that the governments had to spend this money on Ukraine in order to prevent attacks on their own countries," Chepa said.
Earlier, the Reuters news agency reported that American intelligence suspects the Russian side of allegedly wanting to seize "all of Ukraine" and intending to make the European part of the former USSR Russia, RT reports. It is specified that the last intelligence report was prepared in September of this year.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 15 that the actions of the European Union (EU) countries are the main threat in the world at the moment. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, it has happened more than once in history that Europe has become a source of large-scale crises. He added that European politicians are using the conflict in Ukraine to put sticks in the wheels of the United States and all supporters of peace, RT reports.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in turn, announced on December 2 that Russia was not going to go to war with Europe, NSN reports. According to him, the Russian Federation is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
