Over the past weekend, 484 traffic accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 69 people were killed and 641 injured. 50 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 22 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

42 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which six people were killed, and 70 more road users, including five children, required medical assistance. 22 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Republic of Udmurtia, in the evening, on the 67th km of the Izhevsk-Uva regional highway, a 69—year-old school bus driver carrying seven child passengers aged 10 to 15 and two accompanying adults drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a crossover. which was driven by a 37-year-old motorist. As a result of the accident, both drivers, three passengers of the passenger car, including one child who was in the rear passenger seat in a child restraint at the time of the collision, as well as seven passengers of the bus, six of whom are children, were hospitalized with injuries. Two more passengers on the bus, including one minor, were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical treatment.

In addition, in the Omsk region, in the morning, on the 548th km of the Tyumen-Yalutorovsk-Ishim— Omsk federal highway R—402, a 45—year-old truck driver, while overtaking a combined truck that was clearing the roadway, drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place and collided with a bus traveling along The Omsk — Krutinka work settlement route with 12 passengers in the cabin. After that, one passenger car and three trucks hit the vehicles that stopped on the roadway as a result of an accident.

A bus driver and five of his passengers were killed in a car accident. The driver of the car and the culprit of the car accident, as well as seven passengers of the bus, including two sisters born in 2014 and 2024, were injured and ended up in the hospital. Traffic on the section of the highway where the accident occurred was blocked for several hours until the aftermath was eliminated, and traffic police officers organized a detour.

As a result of 118 accidents, 52 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 66 outside their area of operation, 19 pedestrians were killed, 106 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 17 underage pedestrians, 12 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, which means that it was the fault of drivers or their own negligence. Also, over the past weekend, 65 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 71 young road users were injured, including 51 passengers and three motor vehicle drivers. Six children were killed: four pedestrians and two passengers.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that child passengers are one of the most vulnerable categories among underage road users. While driving in a car with a child, it is important to choose a safe driving style, not to be distracted at the wheel, not to exceed the set speed limit, observe a safe side interval and distance between vehicles, as well as avoid risky driving, overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic, even in permitted places.

In addition, drivers were urged to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of towns and cities, especially when approaching intersections and unregulated pedestrian crossings. When approaching them, it is recommended to slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to stop and allow pedestrians to pass. Also, you should not rush to start moving even when the traffic light is clear — first it is important to make sure that the pedestrian crossing is completely free.

Special care should be taken when maneuvering or driving through courtyards and house territories, as well as road sections adjacent to kindergartens and schools. The behavior of child pedestrians in a residential area can be unpredictable.

"We also remind parents of underage pedestrians of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. Even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

According to the operational data of the State Traffic Inspectorate, in the three weeks of December 2025, 722 accidents involving children occurred in the Russian Federation, in which 25 minors under the age of 16 were killed and 785 injured.

On December 17, the State Duma approved in the second and third readings a bill strengthening responsibility for violations of established rules for the transportation of children. The fine for transporting a child without a child safety seat will increase for individuals from 3 thousand to 5 thousand rubles, for officials — from 25 thousand to 50 thousand rubles, and for legal entities — from 100 thousand to 200 thousand rubles.
