The auto expert listed the necessary kit for a winter road trip
During the cold season, road trips require particularly careful preparation: frost, snow and distance from infrastructure can turn even a small trip into a serious challenge. Alexander Kornev, head of the Department for work with importers at Gazprombank Automotive Leasing, told Izvestia on December 28 that it was definitely worth taking with you on the road.
According to him, the fees should start with the basic documents. It is better to check your driver's license, car registration certificate, insurance policy, as well as gas station loyalty cards and mobile applications with bonuses in advance, especially if the route is long-distance.
"Always keep a charger for gadgets nearby, and on a long journey, take a portable battery and an additional charged phone, preferably a push-button one, so that it can hold a charge for a long time even in the cold in case of force majeure. By the way, it would be nice to put notes on your phone in advance with a list of the main parking spots with food and gas stations, especially if this is a new and long route," said the auto expert.
For unforeseen technical situations, Kornev recommends carrying a hand—held or head-mounted flashlight, a multitool, and a basic set of tools. In winter conditions, a supply of some consumables may also be useful — light bulbs, candles, a belt, which the driver or the foreman at the road station can quickly replace. The expert paid special attention to the battery: its capacity decreases in the cold, especially for batteries with a long service life. To avoid problems with starting the engine, it is worth taking a booster for an emergency start or high-quality wires for "lighting up" with a sufficient cross-section of the cores.
In addition, there must be a non-freezing liquid in the trunk, designed for low temperatures, and before leaving, it is better to refuel at a proven gas station. For long-distance routes, an additional canister of fuel will not be superfluous. In addition to the technical equipment, it is important to think about the comfort of passengers. The expert advises to take a supply of drinking water, a light snack, as well as matches or a lighter. A car kettle can be useful on long trips. For winter conditions, it is recommended to have a second set of warm clothes and a large blanket, especially if there are children in the car.
"In any car, among other things, there should always be a travel kit with medicines, including medications for allergies, pain, fever and digestive disorders, as well as iodine and green tea, bandages and cotton wool. You may also need remedies for motion sickness, even if you haven't had similar symptoms before, and something for burns if you accidentally spill hot tea on yourself in an attempt to keep warm," Kornev said.
He concluded that a walkie-talkie can be an additional safety tool for professional road travelers, especially in areas with poor connectivity. According to him, thoughtful preparation for a winter trip allows you to reduce risks and feel more confident even in difficult weather conditions.
On December 3, Kornev told Izvestia how to protect the car body in winter. According to him, polyurethane film, which is also called anti-gravity, is often used for this purpose. It is better to hide the entire body under it, but sometimes, to save money, it is acceptable to choose the most vulnerable areas — the front fenders, bumper, hood, front pillars and roof. The service life of a good anti—gravel is about five years.
