Analysts have named Russians' favorite vacation regions during the winter season
Winter tourist demand in 2025 has not only shown recovery, but has also moved to a new quality. The analysts of Russian Railways -Digital Passenger Solutions told Izvestia about this. They studied the data from the Innovative Mobility platform and found out how travelers' preferences changed during the winter season of 2023-2026.
Analysts have found that, as in the case of summer holidays, the railway routes between Moscow and St. Petersburg are leading in winter tourism, with tourists traveling to Moscow more often. Together, they account for more than half of the top demand — 27.8% from St. Petersburg and 26.9% from Moscow.
"People began to plan vacations as thoughtfully as business trips: in 40-60 days, with a clear choice of transport and route," said Evgenia Chukhnova, general director of the center.
In the winter of 2025, shipments from the regions are growing dynamically: +125.1% from Novosibirsk, +113.4% from Saratov, +111.7% from Nizhny Novgorod and +109.2% from Voronezh.
Moscow and Adler have become the most popular destinations for air travel. Compared to 2024, routes to Siberia disappeared from the top (previously Irkutsk – Moscow and back were in the lead): in 2025, Irkutsk historical "130th quarter" and winter Baikal lost their positions.
Gennady Onishchenko, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education, said on November 30 that Russians should not spend New Year's holidays in warm countries, because in this case the body will have difficulties in climatic adaptation.
