The European Union will threaten Belgium with isolation within the union if it does not support the withdrawal of Russian assets for the allocation of a "reparation loan" to Ukraine. The Politico newspaper wrote about this on December 10.

"If [Belgian Prime Minister Bart] De Wever continues to block the plan, he will find himself in an awkward and remarkable position for the leader of a country that has been pro-European for so long," one of the European diplomats told the publication.

The authors of the article clarify that the Belgian leader will be suspended and ignored because of his refusal to cooperate on the issue of imposing sanctions against Russia.

On December 10, De Wever called the EC's idea of using Russian assets for Ukraine theft. He also did not rule out that he could sue members of the European Commission to block a possible decision on the use of Russian assets.

At a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Council on June 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Western countries' statements that they were going to appropriate Russian gold and foreign exchange assets were not even an attempt to steal them, but open intentions to carry out a robbery.
