Trump criticized massive corruption in Ukraine and called for elections.
US President Donald Trump has spoken about the widespread nature of corruption in Ukraine and expressed doubts about the observance of democratic procedures in the country. He announced this on December 10, answering questions from reporters at the White House.
"They have massive corruption there. I wonder how long it will be before they hold elections. Democracy? But they haven't had an election in a long time," Trump said.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the leaders of the EU countries notified President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about the receipt by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine of data from the United States on about $1 billion withdrawn as part of corruption schemes. Information about the investigation was provided to Zelensky during his meeting with the heads of government of Great Britain, France and Germany.
